Joseph "Alfred" Critchley Obituary
Joseph “Alfred” Critchley, 81, of Layland passed away on March 16, 2026 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley. He was born on February 8, 1945 at Ronceverte; he was the son of the late Richard Alfred Critchley and Mary Elizabeth Carter Critchley. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patty Critchley in 2015; 4 grandchildren, Joshua Critchley, Matthew Legg, Rylan Critchley and Alexander Cox; 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Alfred liked to fish, loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a local auto mechanic, he formerly worked in the mines and drove a truck. Survivors include his daughter, Tina (Gary) Rhodes of Oak Hill; sons, Joe (Diane) Critchley of Layland, Rick (Shannon) Critchley of Maplewood, Lee (Stephanie) Critchley of Maplewood, Danny (Lisa) Critchley of Maplewood and Johnny (Judith) Critchley of Danese; sisters, Dorothy “Sis” Sheaves of Brexville, Ohio and Betty Seldomridge of Alderson; brothers, Delbert (Doris) of Danese and Jack Critchley of Bedford, Ohio; sister-in-law, Joyce Critchley of Ansted; brother-in-law, Chuck (Sonya) Brandstetter of Atlanta, GA; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Service will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2026 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle with Mr. Donnie Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Bowers Hospice House. The family wants to say a special thank you to Bowers Hospice House and the nurses Kayla, Anndee and Randi who took special care of him.
