JoAnn Menefee Kessler

Our beloved mother, mawmaw Jo, and great grandma Jo, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025 in a Charleston hospital with her loving family by her side. Born March 15, 1936 at Crownhill, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William and Hazel (Haymaker) Menefee. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Paul "Butch" Kessler; two brothers, William Menefee, Jr. and Johnny Menefee; and two son-in-laws, Rodney Sutphin and Mike Szoke. Those left to cherish her wonderful memory are her children, Nancy Martin (Roger), Mary James (David), Karen Szoke, Paula Conner (Keith), Paul Kessler, Jr. (Chris), Shelby Drennen (Johny), and Debbie Miller (Frankie); thirteen grandchildren, Michael James, Rodney Sutphin (Stephanie), Miranda Martin (Geoff), Christina Fitzwater (Chris), Brittany Sutphin (Holly), Kayla Martin, Megan Begley (Nathaniel), Samantha Bowen, Butch Kessler, Shawn Kessler, Taylor Barley (Isaac), Madison Martin (Seth), and Courtney Akey (Bryce); ten great grandchildren that she cherished deeply; and her siblings, Jacky Menefee, Wilma Gelfeld, Mary Pearson, Peggy Greene, and Nancy Smith. Services will be 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill with Pastor Robert Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
