Betty Sue Arcudia

December 20, 1943 — June 9, 2025

Betty Sue Arcudia entered the Lord's presence on June 9, 2025, at the age of 81 in Bowers Hospice in Beckley, West Virginia.

Betty was the second child of Robert S. and Faye Gunnoe Thompson, born on December 20, 1943, in Glen Rogers, West Virginia. On December 30, 1961, she married Tommy Ray Arcudia at Scarbro, West Virginia, and they enjoyed 48 years together until his death in 2009. They were blessed with one son, Tommy Ray Arcudia, Jr.

While her roots were in West Virginia, Betty lived in several places in the early years of her marriage, including Germany. As an Air Force wife, she went wherever Tom was stationed. After Tom’s retirement, they returned to West Virginia. In addition to being a devoted and loving mother and wife, she made many friends over the years, and all will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and grace. In her mother’s later years, Betty devoted herself to the care of her, never complaining and giving entirely of herself.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents, Robert and Faye; and her younger brother, Gary. She is survived by her son, Tommy, Jr., and his wife, Jo; her dearest friend and daughter, Elizabeth Comer, who faithfully cared for her for the past five years; a brother, John Thompson; and several nieces and nephews, including Traci Cottle, of Oak Hill.

Family visitation will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 13, 2025, with visitation for friends at 12:00 PM, with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m., all at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill. WV. Betty will be entombed in the mausoleum at High Lawn Memorial Park.

The family thanks Bowers Hospice's personnel for caring for her during her final days.

“See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.”
